USS HUNLEY AS-31 ash tray From 1864

This auctions is for what is to be lived to be an ash tray from the USS HUNLEY AS-31 ship. I do not know that much about it. It was gave to me by my husband whom it was gave to him by his mother her father gave it to her and so on. It has been in the famliy for years. It is about 20lbs. Very heavy. It says MARINE    DETSCHMENT USS HUNLEY AS-31 on it.  That is about all I know.

The Hunley was a submarine. The USS Hunley (AS-31) is a submarine tender that was commisioned in and around 1964-1965. I have a friend that was on the ship when it was commisioned. I was stationed aboard the ship in 1984-1986. I am positive this was an ashtray for their MARDET (marine Detachment) aboard the ship.
