I am a fifth generation NATIVE ARIZONA MINER who risks his life DEEP IN THE EARTH to bring you the FINEST MINERALS IN THE WORLD!!! I have been tracking down legends of lost mines in Arizona since TIME before TIME when COPPER was KING, Phoenix was small, and MEN were LEGENDS IN THEIR OWN TIME!!! As a kid, I prowled the tunnels and shafts of North Mountain, under what is now THE POINT AT TAPATIO CLIFFS. In later years, I spent many hours deep in the bowels of Sunset Mountain at 83rd Ave. and Pinnacle Peak Rd., in Phoenix, AZ. Collecting fine GOLD MATRIX SPECIMENS!!! These mines are all blown shut, and $500,000 homes built over them. A large in-ground pool sits atop the entrance to the old Glory Hole at Sunset Mountain!! All my life I have criss-crossed every square mile of Arizona, trying to preserve some of its precious treasures for future generations before it all falls prey to the developer's bulldozers at the current rate of AN ACRE AN HOUR!!!!

I remember by the time I was ten, I fancied myself a world class miner! I'd hear dad busting firewood at 4:30 in the morning, and I'd force myself out of the cozy, broken down camp trailer. Dad would get the fire going, put the grate on, dump the coffee grounds in the pot, fill it with water, and set it on the fire. Every morning, shaking and chattering as I thawed, listening to the pop of the embers in the fire, I'd turn to dad and say "you figure I'm old enough to drink coffee, Pa?" And every morning he'd say "give it a bit, boy." On this particular morning, we were off to do some surveying and install some claim posts to expand the property on a new part of the strike Dad had found. We woke the "Womenfolk" (mom and my two sisters) up before we left and strapped on our canteens and tool packs. Dad hoisted a bundle of claim posts over his shoulder, I struggled to hoist a pick and shovel over mine, and we were off! I remember Dad's long stride, and as I closely followed him through the cholla cactus "forest" I tried in vain to match his step, attempting to place my small feet in his huge boot prints. I remember looking at his broad, powerful back, and thinking, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah, ya know I'm gonna be like him!"

And suddenly here I am 28 years later, two buckets of ore in my hands, and my own kids trailing eagerly behind, each with a rock of their own to carry, trying to match my stride. I notice, and a smile crosses my face, a tear of remembrance moistens the corner of my eye and I think, "I'm just like him."

And so, through the course of destiny I now bring you the exclusive premier offering of the finest mining property currently in my possession!

We want to be perfectly honest and clear on what you will be bidding on. This is an UNPATENTED MINING CLAIM. Don't let anyone fool you about unpatented mining claims. Although full ownership of this claim may become available to the claimant in the future through the patenting process (currently under moratorium), for now ownership of the land itself is retained by the Federal Government and managed by the BLM(Bureau of Land Management). Upon purchase of this MINING CLAIM, you will own the locatable mineral rights. You CAN camp on it for 14 days if you aren't actively mining it, or indefinitely while prospecting and mining, and if a plan of operation is aproved for active full scale mining and appropriate bond filed, living quarters may be erected for management and crew (not a luxury home), must be approved by BLM, meet with zoning codes, and MUST be removed once operations have ceased. Once a mining operation has ceased, the land MUST be restored to satisfactory condition in order to reclaim your bond.

THIS CLAIM IS GUARANTEED TO BE FULLY AND LEGALLY STAKED, POSTED, AND LOCATED, AND THE PAPERWORK IS UP TO DATE. YOU WONT SEE THAT GUARANTEE ANYWHERE ELSE ON EBAY!!!

I previously had this listed for what it is worth, but severe health issues have forced me to take what we can get for it due to the fact that I am currently supporting 17 people.

NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF!!!

This sale is for aproximately 320 ACRES of unpatented mining claims containing both OPAL AND GOLD. This opal strike was known about for many years by a world famous lapidary extraordinaire who cabbed and sold only a few carats every year, along with all of his other gemstones. On his deathbed, he passed his secret on to me.

Now, there are several reasons why we are selling the Aurora Opal Mine. It is not because it is "played out", the surface has just been opened.

As I stated above, I am having some serious health troubles that I don't know how long will last, and am currently supporting 17 people (immediate and extended disabled family members).

The Aurora Opal Mine lies deep in the heart of the Wild and Remote, Rough and Rugged Bradshaw mountains of Legendary Western Arizona!!

No doubt most of you opalholics out there already know that precious refractive opal is the result of an extremely rare set of circumstances in which sphereules of wate are trapped in silica excretions from marine organisms in ancient thermal springs. In common opal, these spehrules are disorganized and disseminated, and therefore no refractory planes are formed, but in extremely rare cases, an unkn own phenomenon occurs which causes these spherules to form organized cohesive groups which act as prisms in unison, refracting light, and promecting certain wavelengths, resulting in "color play" or "fire" from within the stone. The smaller the spherules, the darker the spectrum of light reflected - blues, purples, and greens, a more common precious opal, but in extremely rare cases, the spherules are large, refracting light in the visible spectrum as brilliant red orange for the largest, and yellow for medium sized spherules.

Widely available on nearly every gem website on earth which has an opal section is precious opal from Australia. In Australian opal, although prodigious in number, most of the spherule planes are small, and in haphazard fasion reflect in no particular direction. This is rather common with most precious opal, and is attractive inits own way. In a far more rare occurrence (ours is only the second known on Earth), not only are the spherules unbelievably large, refracting an intense red and orange color play, they are arranged in incredibly broad wavy planes, most facing up, creating an effect when looking down on them from the top of the gemstone that you are looking at the "Aurora Borealis" (Northern Lights), therefore the name "Aurora Opal"!

The opal at this mine is high grade, not subject to decay, decrepitation, and crazing like most precious opal found in the western United States. Most opal found in the Western United States must be kept in water or it will fall apart. But the opal from the Aurora Opal Mine is so tough and durable, one can press it hard against an 809 grit silicon carbide belt (dry!!) and watch the sparks fly! After a couple of seconds of superheating, you can pull it away, look at it, and there is NO CRAZING, let alone any fracturing!!! My sons and I found a peice of float containing about 200 carats of fine opal in the host rhyolite. The host rhyolite is an intense purple, and this float had lain out, exposed to freezing winters and blistering summers for so many centuries that the purple rhyolite had been bleached to yellow!!! Yet the color play in this ancient float was as strong, if not stronger than the newly dug stone!!!

There are gem occurrences in Idaho, but the opal is so thin, it must be manufactured into "triplets" with a black hard backing, and a domed crystal cap. There is no need for that at the Aurora Opal Mine.

In order for refractive opal to be gem grade, it must generally be associated with chalcedony, lending it the hardness of agate, and extraordinarily rare association coupled with an already mind numbing array of impossibley rare circumstances needed to form the finest gem opal. Fine diamonds, rubies, and emeralds are rather common stones in comparison. This is why fine rare opals often bring several hundred dollars per carat among elite collectors. I have seen small properly documented stones sell for as much as $50,000.00!! Opal doesn't get any more rare and collectable than the specimens from this mine!

Below are pictures of opal in rhyolite in place at the mine.

Opal and gold mineralization in rhyolite from the mine.

Old drywasher piles at the mine.

Another rare occurrence, gold is found in the same occurence as the opal at the mine.

Lots of gold and opal "float" can be found in this wash on one of the claims.

Extremely rare brown opal is found in profusion at this mine.

Crystal opal from the mine.

Opal in process forming from water seeping up through rhyolite.

Stately sentinels at the mine guard its treasures.

Now, I cut a one carat cab of fine opal from the Aurora Opal mine, and listed it on eBay with a starting bid of just 99 cents to test the market. The cab sold for Ninety Five Dollars, and change. That's approximately $215,460.00 per pound!! So all you have to do to recover the purchase price of this mine is extract and sell less than a pound of good gem grade opal!!! The rest is gravy!! Dig out and sell another 5 pounds, and not only have you recovered your initial price, you have made another million to boot over and above that! And so on.

Now, lets say you spend your money on a restaraunt or residential rental, how long is it going to take you to recover your initial investment with register receipts or rental payments?? Will you still be alive when you "break even"? Probably not! Operating and maintaining most investment properties is about as exciting as watching paint dry (literally!!).

"Romancing the Stone" by mining and marketing one of the rarest gemstones on Earth is what most people only DREAM of. Don't let THIS one slip through your fingers!

Most people think I'm nutty as a fruitcake for selling a once-in-a-thousand-years strike like this, but like I said earlier, circumstances dictate our actions sometimes. Sooooo, I either have to sell my gold or opal strikes, and the opal mine drew the short straw!!

This mine is already in the begining stages of operation, and if you continue to mine it by hand (easy to do and still get a good profit on your investment), you will not need to file a bond or file a plan of operation with the BLM.

Below are pictures of the cab from this mine that I sold on eBay.

Lush High Sonoran Vegetation covers the mine.

The reserve price is set at the typical asking price for an entry level home in a low income neighborhood for which you would expect to receive $600 per month rent of which $400 per month would be spent fixing things as they fell apart. In comparison, all you would have to do for the return on your investment is dig one or two opals per month.
