On the auction block today: AN AWESOME ERROR COIN FROM THE UNITED STATES MINT IN SAN FRANCISCO. THE LINCOLN INCLUDED IN THE ***SILVER PROOF*** SET FOR 2003 . THE DIE, (FOR THE SILVER SET ONLY), WAS PARTIALLY FILLED. THEREFORE THE 3 CAME OUT AS A VERY WEAK STRIKE. AS YOU LOOK AT THE COIN STRAIGHT ON YOU CAN SEE THAT THE 3 IS NOT FROSTED*(See Below) LIKE THE OTHER NUMBERS. TILT THE COIN BACK AND FORTH OR UP AND DOWN AND WATCH AS THE "3" FADES AND ALMOST COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS FROM SIGHT !!! NOW ALL YOU SEE IS "200". TILT IT BACK AND ONCE AGAIN YOU SEE THE FULL DATE 2003. FULL REFUND or REPLACEMENT for ITEMS NOT AS DESCRIBED *PROOF COINS are different because they are made by the mint on highly polished blanks using 4 TIMES the normal striking pressure, and they are struck TWICE. This creates a VERY DEEP IMPRESSION enabling striking details and contrasts. ULTRA CAMEO PROOFS ONLY HAPPEN with the first few strikes from a new die. The inner part of the die, which will create the devices,(images), is still rough. This roughness causes a 'FROSTING' on the finished coin. This contrasts the raised area from the highly polished mirror-like finish of the coin surface. Next are DEEP CAMEO , then CAMEO. As the die is used this rough area smoothes out and takes on a polish thus the Cameo slowly disappears... More Info - Click Here » Specifics:
