+JUAN QUEZADA + Mata Ortiz Pottery + Exquisite +
In the once forgotten village of Mata Ortiz in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, a renaissance of native ceramic arts continues to flourish under the leadership and guidance of Juan Quezada, the founder of the Mata Ortiz pottery movement. Over 400 potters in this village of 2000 produce world class art equal or superior to any native pottery made anywhere in the world. The potters hand form the pots using the pinch method without benefit of a potters wheel, from clay they mine in the foothills above the village, using paint they make from minerals and plants found in the area and then they fire the pots in the open without benefit of a kiln. Each month I spend several days in the village with the very talented and wonderful people reviewing over a thousand pots to find just those few that meet my standards of the highest quality in pottery in every price range from beautiful seedpots and ollitas to the finest museum quality pots. (Perhaps my insistence on high quality accounts for my being the largest seller on the internet of Mata Ortiz pottery for the 6th straight year.) You don't have to go to a store to buy a Dell computer and you don't have to go to a pricey US gallery to buy a top quality Mata Ortiz pot. Thank you for your support. Juan Quezada is the founder of the "Miracle of Mata Ortiz" the ceramic art movement in the dusty village of Mata Ortiz. He has been written about extensively in prominent art magazines and the subject of books and a recent PBS Special. Recipient of the top Art Prize from the Mexican government and presentor of two ollas to Pope John Paul. He is also a down-to-earth modest gentleman always willing to mentor any struggling village potter and a gracious and patient host to village visitors. This is one of his latest creations and very modern in design. Two new innovations: a new gold paint and overlapping motifs. When I was offered this olla last week at the Concurso exhibition where he was a judge I didn't hestitate a moment...it is truly world-class. This pot would sell in a top US gallery for $12,500-$15,000. The pot is 11" tall, 10" in diameter, with an opening of 4". A special polyglass holder comes with it to show it off. Note: my picture program tends to blur red paint...the red graphics are as crisp as the gold and ivory graphics. The pot is flawless and perfectly symmetrical. As always, authenticity and satisfaction guaranteed by Larry Deming, tularosatrader.com, the number one trader on the internet of quality Mata Ortiz pottery in every price range. $50 shipping/insurance (special shipping and insurance charge requirements). Visit my expanded eBay Store for additional Mata Ortiz pottery of the highest quality, crocheted pottery rings by village artisans, and the very best Mata Ortiz books at substantial savings over US and internet galleries. Note: Anyone can bid in a Private Auction...my use of them is to keep serious collectors from being solicited. Please resport any direct offers to eBay...let's keep eBay a safe place to trade quality Mata Ortiz pottery.
