THE MAIN STREET BAKERY IS A SOLID OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE BAKERY OR DELI BUSINESS AND WANTS TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES IN A BEAUTIFUL PLACE.
Orcas is a travel and wedding destination island off the coast of Washington state. We are loved for our stunning natural beauty and abundant wildlife. North of Seattle, and ferry boat or small plane accessable, orcas is the most beautiful and charming of the San Juan islands. Orcas hosts thousands of visitors each year, from the U.S. and abroad, for hiking, biking, whale watching and kayaking. Business is slow here in the winter, although we have seen growth the last few years, so many businesses take a few weeks off to recuperate from the busy summer with a vacation. Orcas has a great school system and an active community.
THE MAIN STREET BAKERY AND ICE CREAM is in the path of travel for every visitor to the island, and is the best location on the island, right on the corner that heads the main street of the village. We also have about 4600 year round island residents, many of whom are our regular customers. We love our friendly village lifestyle. We also own another full service restaurant and bar in town, but we need to give this one up in order to make time to begin a family.
Currently open 7:30 am ?6pm 7 days a week in summer and 7:30-4pm 5 days a week in winter, closed one month per year.
we serve locally roasted organic coffee, and locally brewed chai, we bake our own pastries and breads, and serve Dreyers ice cream, and limited sandwich, soups, and breakfast items. We are quite profitable at running this business ourselves. 185k gross working 11 months out of the year is very realistic, (and ice cream is only 15% food cost), if you do the labor its easy to support a family on the profit. Our salary in 2005 is on track to be 50-60k ( that equals paying ourselves about $15/ hr for the hours we work).
There is room for expanding what is done here, we get lots of people asking for smoothies, catering is huge here and there are very few providers, wholesaling baked goods to other businesses and expanding hours could all increase sales
The purchase of this business includes;
- All equipment, enough and more to bake everything yourself; 2year old espresso machine , panini grill, 2 convection ovens, 2 big Hobarts etc... listed below
- All signage and total rights to name and phone number
- A favorable lease, being renewed for 5more years 6/06, and we will be asking for another renewable term, current rent averages $1950 including sewer and water, other utilities average about $250/month
the bakery lease does include the beautiful garden courtyard (about 1000sqft), which is a wonderful place to eat in the summer.
- Any current inventory (est to be about $1000),
and 2 weeks training for bakery, recipes, and intros to regulars( if needed/wanted)
This sale is for the business and equipment only and does not include the building, however, the building itself is in good condition with beautiful french country style multi pane windows and doors and a covered walkway/porch. It has 4 doors which means it could be divided and sublet if 1250 sq ft is more than you can use. Also the attic is unfinished, but with a little improvement, and a pulldown stairway could be used for storage
The landlord is very nice, and a realistic businessman, he will need to approve a new assignment of the lease
This is your chance to run your own business in the serene and lush San Juan Islands. To find more general info about Orcas Island please visit the Orcas Chamber of Commerce web site, or otterspond.com, or guidetosanjuans.com.
